For those of us from the Anglican tradition, Christmas eve without the sacrament of the Lord's Supper is unthinkable. But how can we gather when in-person worship is suspended until January 8?
The answer is we eat the Lord's Supper using "reserve" sacrament. The attached PDF letter explains how we're going to do this. Under normal circumstances, reserve sacrament is used for those who can't physically get to church. This year, that includes all of us. Be assured that you can have holy communion this Christmas with your church family, but in a slightly different way.
Please take note of one paragraph especially: This could also be an opportunity to extend the invitation to a friend or neighbour who professes faith in Jesus Christ but doesn’t attend church. Why not speak with them and see if they’d be interested in being part of our Christmas eve communion service this year?
Please read the letter and let us know if you have questions.
